Eco-design rules will make electronic devices more efficient, EU Commission says

( October 13, 2025, 11:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Electronic devices are expected to become more energy efficient and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions under updated EU eco-design requirements that were adopted on Monday, the European Commission said in a statement. With the new rules — which include a common charger across the EU — laptops, smartphones, routers, and monitors are projected to save up to 3 percent of annual energy consumption by 2035, cut emissions by 9 percent and reduce pollutants by 13 percent, the EU executive said.
