Coral dieback shows need for urgent climate action, international research shows

( October 13, 2025, 09:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Societal transformation and implementation of green technology are essential to reversing the negative effects of global warming, a report co-signed by 160 scientists said on Monday. The report, released in advance of a UN climate summit next month, said that warm-water coral reefs are past their “tipping point,” meaning that dieback is almost certain if global warming is not reversed. Melting ice sheets, dieback of the Amazon and a collapse of ocean currents are also near their tipping points unless critical action is taken, warned the report produced by the Global Systems Institute at the University of Exeter in the UK.
