Australian consumers well-protected from risks of AI-enabled goods, report finds

( October 3, 2025, 05:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australian consumer laws offer protections against risks from artificial intelligence-enabled products that are as strong as, or in some cases stronger than, those in the EU, the UK and Singapore, a new report said Friday. In the report, Review of AI and the Australian Consumer Law, the Australian Treasury department found that the existing remedy and liability provisions under the Australian Consumer Law are “broad and remain appropriate in an AI context.” It also said the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission’s current enforcement powers do not require changes to oversee AI-enabled goods and services, though a regular review of the regulator’s powers should continue.
