New hybrid car registrations now outnumber gas and diesel, ACEA says

( September 25, 2025, 13:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Hybrid-electric vehicles now make up the largest share of new car registrations in the EU, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association ACEA said in a report on Thursday. More than half of new registrations in the first eight months of 2025 were some kind of hybrid: 34.7% were hybrid-EVs, 15.8% were battery-electric and 8.8% were plug-in electric. This comes as the combined market share of diesel and gas vehicles has dropped by 9 percentage points since August 2024. Though the ACEA report deems this a step in the right direction, it says the EU is still lagging behind when it comes to the transition away from polluting transport. Full press release follows:...
