Simplified carbon leakage instrument officially adopted by EU member states

( September 29, 2025, 09:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Importers of carbon-intensive goods will be subject to simplified rules under the EU’s revised Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, officially adopted by member states on Monday. Under the EU simplification package, known as Omnibus I, importers of goods weighing up to 50 tons per year will be exempt from CBAM rules. Importers awaiting a listing in the CBAM registry will face no disruptions either, member states said. Additional simplifications apply to the authorization procedure, data collection processes, emissions calculations and verification rules, as well as the calculation of financial liability for authorized CBAM declarants.Full press release follows:...
