South Korea scrambles to restore core government systems after data-center fire

The blaze, triggered by a lithium-ion battery explosion on Friday night at the agency’s Daejeon headquarters, destroyed 96 core systems, including the national grievance portal and the internal platform used by civil servants, and will take at least two weeks to rebuild at its Daegu cloud center. Another 551 systems were shut down as a precaution and are being gradually restored, with priority given to services affecting public safety, property and economic activity.
