USPTO meets FY25 patent backlog goal in policy success

The office has met its goal of reducing the backlog from a peak of 838,000 in January to under 800,000, it announced Sept. 24.USPTO leaders have made significant progress in the last nine months toward one of the office’s main goals:  reducing the backlog of unexamined patents. While unpopular with examiners, cutting back so-called “other time,” among other moves, has effectively eliminated the rapid increase in the backlog that took place last fall....
