South Korea urged to ease cloud security rules to allow foreign providers access

( September 26, 2025, 07:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean government should revise the grading system for its cloud security assurance program to open access to government contracts for non-Korean cloud service providers, the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea, or ECCK, said in its 2025 White Paper. The chamber suggested the government classify only the most sensitive government agencies, such as those handling defense, security and sensitive health data, as “high” grade and make other agencies fall under lower categories. The ECCK also noted that recent updates by the National Intelligence Service and the Ministry of Science and ICT to cybersecurity and cloud security policies “slightly eased requirements” by reducing physical-separation obligations and allowing global encryption standards.
