ESPN's moves on NFL, MLB networks threaten competition, US legislators say

( September 23, 2025, 23:55 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: ESPN's recent efforts to consolidate distribution rights as to the National Football League Network and Major League Baseball TV "raise serious concerns and could entrench ESPN's dominance over competitors in sports distribution," US Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, and Representatives Joaquin Castro and Patrick Ryan said in a letter addressed to top executives at Walt Disney, the NFL, MLB, and ESPN. In exchange for a 10 percent stake in its company by the NFL, ESPN would secure "key media assets" from the league, giving the NFL an incentive to grant ESPN anticompetitive preferential treatment over other distribution partners, as well as potentially giving ESPN parent Disney greater control over televised sports carriage, they said.See attached file....
