However, the response to the recently announced overhaul of the 1986 Commerce Act has been mixed. Legal experts are praising the decision to introduce changes to allow the regulator to accept behavioral remedies when reviewing a deal; however, they are also critical of other measures, which, they say, are at best a missed opportunity and, at worst, “window dressing.”When New Zealand announced a plan to revamp its arguably outdated competition laws, most businesses and antitrust observers appeared to be on board. It’s true that the pro-business, center-right government was on a drive to slash red tape; but it had also made clear that a robust defense of competition was central to its economic outlook....
