South Korea antitrust chief vows tougher crackdown on technology misappropriation

Korea Fair Trade Commission Chair Ju Biung-ghi said at a meeting with industry representatives on Thursday that the agency will move beyond complaint-based enforcement and proactively detect hidden cases through ex officio probes, particularly in sectors prone to abuse. To address victims’ biggest challenge — difficulties in securing evidence and proving damages in lawsuits — the regulator plans to introduce a “Korean-style discovery” system for technology misappropriation cases and require courts to accept materials collected by KFTC investigators.
