Doping data publication of Austrian athletes contrary to EU law, judge says

( September 25, 2025, 08:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Doping data — including names, sports, infringements, and sanction details — cannot be automatically published online by Austria’s anti-doping bodies, a judge at the EU's highest court said on Thursday. In a legal opinion for the EU's Court of Justice, Advocate General Dean Spielmann said the practice would breach the bloc's General Data Protection Regulation unless proportionate safeguards were applied, such as limiting disclosure to sports federations or using pseudonymisation.The press release and the opinion are attached.
