TikTok did not sufficiently curtail collection of children’s personal information in Canada investigation finds

( September 23, 2025, 17:25 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: TikTok used inadequate measures to keep children off the video-sharing platform and to prevent the collection and use of their sensitive personal information for profiling and targeting purposes, Canada’s Privacy Commissioner announced. The findings were part of a joint investigation into TikTok by the Privacy Commissioner and provincial counterparts in Quebec, British Columbia and Alberta. In response to the findings and recommendations, TikTok has agreed to strengthen privacy communications to ensure that users, and in particular younger users, understand how their data could be used, including for targeted advertising and content personalization.Statement follows in full.
