China warns ByteDance's Toutiao over harmful online content

Officials said the platform failed to manage content, allowing harmful material to appear on its trending list and placing related topics prominently on landing pages. Toutiao was issued a warning, ordered to make corrections within a set timeframe and told that responsible personnel would face strict penalties under rules governing the online information ecosystem.
