Malaysia warns Meta of further action over failure to curb cybercrime

( September 23, 2025, 07:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Meta Platforms has failed to take effective measures against cybercrime on its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, according to Malaysian Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. He said that as of Sept. 19, authorities had submitted 168,774 takedown requests to Meta for Facebook, making up 59 percent of requests across all social media, with most linked to online gambling and scams. Losses from e-commerce fraud on Meta platforms exceeded 248 million ringgit ($59 million) in 18,128 cases between 2023 and August 2025, he said.
