Targeted 'ex ante' digital rules would complement existing laws: Australian regulator

( September 22, 2025, 07:28 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia needs targeted “ex ante” digital rules to complement existing competition laws and to ensure that the benefits of similar laws in other jurisdictions are passed on to Australian consumers, the antitrust watchdog said. In a statement to MLex, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said changes made by digital giants in other jurisdictions, in response to ex ante laws, won’t be passed on to Australia unless there are similar laws in place here. “Unless required to do so, digital platforms are unlikely to make these changes here, meaning that Australian consumers and businesses do not receive these benefits,” the regulator said. The full statement of an Australian Competition & Consumer Commission spokesperson to MLex follows:...
