Fired DOJ official Rinner urges short US premerger form, praises former colleagues

By Ilana Kowarski ( September 19, 2025, 23:19 GMT | Insight) -- Fired Deputy Assistant Attorney General Bill Rinner complimented his former antitrust-enforcement colleagues in the Trump-Vance administration for their "surgical approach" to combating merger antitrust harms and for "pitching straight down the center" with regard to case selection and theories of harm. Rinner briefly served as head of merger enforcement at the Department of Justice Antitrust Division prior to his dismissal from that role in late July.  He also offered Trump-Vance competition authorities suggestions, advising them to unveil a short version of the US premerger form to address government critics and reduce the risk of litigation from those detractors. Recently fired Deputy Assistant Attorney General Bill Rinner complimented his former antitrust-enforcement colleagues in the Trump-Vance administration for their "surgical approach" to combating merger antitrust harms and for "pitching straight down the center" with regard to case selection and theories of harm....
