Japan's Shimano told to repay subcontractors over storage costs

( September 17, 2025, 10:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Shimano, a Japanese manufacturer of bicycle components, received a corrective recommendation from the Japan Fair Trade Commission on Wednesday for violating the Subcontract Act. The JFTC said the company, based in Sakai City, Osaka, required 121 subcontractors to store 4,313 metal molds and other tools and to check inventories twice a year without compensation. Many of the molds had not been used for long periods. Shimano has been instructed to reimburse subcontractors for storage costs and labor, and to ensure that its board members resolve not to repeat the violation.
