Trump administration tells US Supreme Court it had authority to fire Slaughter

( September 16, 2025, 21:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Just as the US Supreme Court ruled that the president has the constitutional authority to fire board members of the National Labor Relations Board and other executive branch entities, President Trump has the authority to fire Rebecca Kelly Slaughter from the US Federal Trade Commission, the administration told the justices. "The only salient difference between the modern-day FTC and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is that the FTC exercises even more significant executive power than its counterparts," the administration said, arguing that the high court should block Slaughter's reinstatement to the FTC as ordered by two lower courts, and it should grant certiorari to hear the case.See attached document....
