Amazon files trial brief in US FTC 'dark patterns' case

( September 15, 2025, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Amazon filed its trial brief in the US Federal Trade Commission's suit alleging the use of "dark patterns" — deceptive design that makes it tougher for consumers to cancel their Prime subscriptions. “The evidence at trial will disprove the Federal Trade Commission’s claim that Amazon tricked and trapped its customers into unwanted Prime subscriptions. Contrary to the FTC’s narrative, Amazon has always been transparent about Prime’s terms, and Amazon offers straightforward ways to end a Prime membership. Specifically, the evidence will show that Amazon satisfies the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act’s three basic requirements,” it said. See attached file. ...
