South Korea's KT files breach report after privacy probe over unauthorized charges

( September 11, 2025, 07:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Telecom giant KT has formally notified South Korea’s privacy regulator of a personal-data breach linked to the recent unauthorized small-amount billing incident. The filing, received by the Personal Information Protection Commission on Thursday, said international mobile-subscriber identity numbers for 5,561 users may have been exposed through illicit connections via illegal micro base stations. The notification came a day after the regulator announced it had already opened an investigation into KT, along with another carrier LG Uplus, despite not having received a breach report at the time. The regulator said it will examine the cause, scope and compliance issues related to the incident and take action if violations are found.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
