OpenAI opens South Korea office, sees more partnerships despite sovereign AI drive

He emphasized OpenAI’s track record on privacy, security and safety while supporting South Korea’s pursuit of sovereign AI that still allows collaboration with global companies. Kwon said OpenAI chose South Korea as a location for its third Asian subsidiary to deepen partnerships, aligning with the government’s goal to become a global AI powerhouse. An OpenAI executive shrugged off South Korea’s delay in legislating a subordinate decree and sub-rules for the the country's basic artificial intelligence law, saying Wednesday that the company is committed to engaging with the government as a partner to pursue the best possible outcome for users over the long term....
