Consent decree process begins for Coupang in South Korea over subcontracting concerns

( September 10, 2025, 03:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Consent decree proceedings have been opened for e-commerce giant Coupang and its private-brand subsidiary CPLB by South Korea’s antitrust regulator over suspected violations of subcontracting law. The Korea Fair Trade Commission said it decided on Aug. 27 to launch the process after the companies applied for a consent decree to resolve allegations they had issued unsigned order documents and reduced supplier prices during promotions not specified in contracts. Coupang and CPLB proposed corrective measures including requiring signatures on contracts and orders, specifying minimum order quantities and lead times per product, consulting in advance on promotions and ensuring Coupang bears at least 50 percent of promotion costs. They also pledged supplier-support programs worth at least 3 billion won (about $2.2 million), with the regulator to draft a tentative decree, gather stakeholder input and coordinate with agencies before deciding on final adoption.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
