While preventing kids from seeing stuff they shouldn’t online is a good thing, the fallout from the Mississippi law is illustrating just how fraught it could be to use individual state laws to protect children and teens on the Internet, without there being significant collateral damage to the privacy and speech rights of adults.Mississippi’s age-verification law is likely unconstitutional, a US Supreme Court Justice and a federal district judge say. Yet the law, intended to prevent minors from being exposed to pornography and other harmful content online, has taken effect and is already blocking adults from seeing lawful content — an outcome beyond its stated purpose of protecting kids....
