Brazil cleared for EU data transfers under draft adequacy decision

The Brazilian data watchdog, the ANPD, said it is finalizing a reciprocal decision to be sent for board approval after legal review. EU digital chief Henna Virkkunen called Brazil a “natural partner,” while ANPD president Waldemar Gonçalves said legal alignment is a “strategic step” to deepen trade ties and protect data subjects’ rights.Businesses, public sector bodies and researchers would be able to transfer personal data from the EU to Brazil without additional safeguards under a draft adequacy decision published today by the European Commission (see here)....
