Otter.ai faces US biometric privacy lawsuit over Zoom voiceprint collection

( August 26, 2025, 20:36 GMT | Official Statement) -- Otter.ai is facing a proposed class action in US federal court alleging that it unlawfully collects and stores biometric voiceprints from video-conference participants in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA). The complaint accuses Otter of failing to notify individuals or obtain their consent before using its speech-recognition software to capture “speaker identification data” during Zoom meetings. Illinois residents Jasper and Michael Walker claim Otter retains this data indefinitely without disclosing a data retention or destruction policy as required by BIPA.See attached complaint....
