French businesses want flexibility on EU 2040 climate target

( August 27, 2025, 12:43 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The EU’s 90 percent emissions-reduction target by 2040 must be paired with concrete tools to safeguard Europe’s industrial competitiveness, French industry associations Union Française de l’Électricité and Impact France said in a letter today. To ensure climate ambition translates into industrial success, the EU should introduce a 2030 review clause under which the 2040 target could be temporarily suspended if competitiveness commitments, such as the EU industrial decarbonization bank, are not met, the associations said.Full letter (in French) attached....
