Paraguay’s competition authority opposes price-fixing clause in waste trade bill

( August 26, 2025, 16:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Paraguay’s National Competition Commission, or CONACOM, announced that it issued a formal opinion on Aug. 22 recommending at least partial objection to a proposed bill regulating the trade of ferrous and non-ferrous metal waste and polyethylene terephthalate plastics. The commission warned that the bill introduces a barrier to market competition by allowing the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to set an international reference price, penalizing businesses that report revenues below that threshold — effectively establishing a minimum price mechanism.
