Countries fail again to reach global plastic pollution agreement

( August 18, 2025, 09:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UN member states failed to agree on a legally binding international deal to end plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, after 10 days of negotiations at the fifth session of Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee talks in Geneva. The meeting, which was attended by representatives from 183 countries and some 400 organizations, adjourned early on Friday with a clearly expressed desire by member states to continue the process, while recognizing the significant difference of views on the issue, the UN said in a statement.
