Google accepts fine, says preloading in Australia was anticompetitive

In a statement today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission announced it had launched a penalties lawsuit after Google Asia Pacific admitted liability and accepted the fine, which will now have to be approved by a judge. The regulator’s antitrust probe had been underway since June 2022. Google is set to pay fines worth A$55 million ($35.8 million) in a settlement with Australia’s competition enforcer over anticompetitive understandings the search giant reached with local phone companies over the preloading of Google Search on Android mobile phones....
