Google faces $35 million penalty, antitrust case in Australia over Search deals

( August 18, 2025, 00:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Google is facing a $35 million (A$55 million) penalty and legal proceedings after admitting to anticompetitive conduct in Australia. The company struck exclusive deals with telecommunications providers Telstra and Optus to pre-install Google Search on Android mobile phones they sold, the competition watchdog said. In a statement today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said that the “understandings” were in place between December 2019 and March 2021.
