China's Guangxi narrows data export restrictions to boost Asean trade

The move, part of China’s 2024 cross-border data rules, is aimed at speeding up most data transfers and supporting trade with Southeast Asian countries. The initial list focuses on four sectors — geographic and meteorological services, enterprise credit, cross-border livestreaming e-commerce, and overseas audio-video production — while providing detailed definitions of “important data” that require clearance.The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a gateway connecting China and Southeast Asia, aims to help Chinese companies engage more easily in the growing Asean digital economy by issuing a “negative list” that effectively eases outbound data transfers from its free-trade zone....
