Real Sociedad de Fútbol fined in Spain for GDPR breach
( August 13, 2025, 15:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Real Sociedad de Fútbol has been fined 66,000 euros by the Spanish data protection authority for breaching the EU's General Data Protection Regulation in relation to a ransomware cyber incident that affected the personal data of 60,000 data subjects including biometric and financial data, the national watchdog said. The fine has been reduced by 40 percent from 110,000 euros to reflect the club's acknowledgement of its responsibility in terms of ensuring appropriate security of personal data and its voluntary payment of the fine.
