US states get injunction against use of Medicaid data for immigration enforcement

( August 12, 2025, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a preliminary injunction blocking the US Department of Homeland Security from using Medicaid data obtained from states for immigration enforcement purposes and the Department of Health and Human Services from sharing Medicaid data obtained from states with DHS for those purposes.  “Today’s preliminary injunction rightfully blocks any sharing of California's Medicaid data for immigration enforcement for now — and ensures any of the data that’s already been shared is not being used for immigration enforcement purposes. As the President continues to overstep his authority in his inhumane anti-immigrant crusade, this is a clear reminder that he remains bound by the law,” Bonta said.Statement follows in full.
