NCAA moves to dismiss Wisconsin athlete's amended US antitrust complaint

( August 12, 2025, 22:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The National Collegiate Athletic Association moved to dismiss Nyzier Fourqurean’s amended US complaint challenging the NCAA’s five-year-rule, which relates to the number of years college football players can play Division I NCAA football after transferring to a Division I school. The NCAA argued that the core antitrust claim still fails to plausibly allege a relevant market, anticompetitive effects, or a cognizable antitrust injury. Additionally, the attempt to redefine the market is based on legal conclusions, not facts, and the theory of anticompetitive harm defies basic economic principles – arguing that a rule limiting the supply of student-athletes somehow depresses their compensation rather than increasing it, logic seriously questioned by the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.See attached file. ...
