Samsung, SK Telecom, Naver among firms facing South Korea cybersecurity-disclosure checks

( August 11, 2025, 08:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea’s science ministry will audit the accuracy of 2025 information-security disclosures by 40 major companies, including Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom, KT, LG Uplus, Naver, Kakao and Coupang. The three-month review, starting in August, will examine reported 2024 cybersecurity investments, staffing and related measures, focusing on companies with over 1 million daily users and licensed telecommunications carriers, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT. Introduced in 2022, the disclosure regime requires qualifying companies to publicly report their cybersecurity status to boost transparency and investment. The ministry said serious errors will trigger correction orders, with fines of up to 10 million won (about $7,200) for non-compliance, and noted that recent emergency inspections of other major telecom and platform operators after the SK Telecom data breach found no irregularities.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
