Kongsberg-GNAPL deal first to be notified under Australia's new mandatory regime

( August 11, 2025, 06:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Kongsberg Defence Australia’s proposal to enter into lease arrangements with Greater Newcastle Aerotropolis for land adjacent to Newcastle Airport, on Australia’s eastern coast, is the first deal to be notified through the country’s new mandatory and suspensory merger regime. Announcing the notification today, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission said it had prepared a questionnaire asking industry players for initial feedback on the transaction. Kongsberg Defence Australia is indirectly wholly owned by Kongsberg Gruppen ASA, an international technology group; GNAPL is jointly owned by the Newcastle City Council and Port Stephens Council and manages the operation and development of Newcastle Airport under a 60-year lease with the federal government.
