New Zealand's Viridian-Metro Performance Glass deal sparks in-depth review

( August 7, 2025, 01:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The acquisition of publicly listed Metro Performance Glass by Viridian NZ BidCo, owned by Crescent Capital Partners, may lead to substantial lessening of competition in relevant markets, the New Zealand antitrust watchdog said. In a statement of issues published today, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said that its preliminary view is that the relevant markets for assessing potential competition issues are narrower than those provided by the parties. This includes separate national markets for supplying architectural-glass products to fabricators, merchants or glaziers and construction firms, the regulator added. The watchdog said that its investigation will focus on whether the supply options for customers differ across New Zealand such that “it might be appropriate to define separate North Island and South Island geographic markets.”The full statement by the New Zealand Commerce Commission follows and the statement of issues is attached:...
