Kegstar-Konvoy deal sparks additional market questions by New Zealand regulator

( August 5, 2025, 00:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The review of beer-kegs supplier Kegstar New Zealand’s bid to acquire the kegs, beacons and operational records of Konvoy New Zealand, which went into liquidation recently, is continuing, with the country’s competition regulator publishing today a statement of preliminary issues.  In the document, the New Zealand Commerce Commission said it would weigh up whether to accept the merger parties’ market definition, which is the national market for the supply of kegs and logistics solutions to brewers. Among the preliminary issues being examined is whether the loss of competition between Kegstar and Konvoy would enable Kegstar to “profitably raise prices or reduce quality or innovation by itself.” The regulator has set Sept. 19 as its deadline for a decision. The Commerce Commission's statement of preliminary issues is attached and the full media release follows: ...
