Headwater’s patent partially revoked by UPC; Samsung wins dispute

( August 1, 2025, 13:01 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Headwater’s EP 2,391,947 has been partially revoked for France and Germany, the Unified Patent Court’s local division in Munich announced today. This decision comes amid Headwater's patent dispute with various Samsung entities that are accused of using the patented technology in mobile communication devices that use the Android 7 operating system or higher. In response, Samsung filed a counterclaim for revocation that was successful. The court deemed the patent’s claims extend beyond the content of the application as originally filed, and further dismissed the infringement action. Headwater must pay the costs for both legal actions, whose ceiling is set at 600,000 euros.The decision is attached....
