Apparel seller hits NFL, Fanatics with second US compliant over licensed merchandise

( July 30, 2025, 17:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Apparel seller Casey's Distributing hit the National Football League, all NFL teams and sports trading card company Fanatics with a second amended US antitrust compliant, alleging the defendants willfully acquired or maintained monopoly power over the NFL licensed product market. "Defendants demonstrated their actual market power by prohibiting licensees from selling to retailers and boycotting retailers from operating on [third-party online marketplaces] — for example, Amazon and Walmart — and thus competing with Defendants’ own retail operations," said the complaint filed to the US Southern District of New York. Casey's seeks damages, as well as declarative and injunctive relief under Sections 1, 2, and 3 of the Sherman Act and under the Clayton Act, all on behalf of nationwide plaintiff class of persons who purchased NFL licensed products from the defendants or their subsidiaries since January 2016.
