X ruling proves tech companies must accept Australian rules: eSafety Commissioner

( July 31, 2025, 03:34 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Australia’s online-safety watchdog has welcomed a court decision that found X Corp. was required to respond to a notice seeking information about steps taken by Twitter to combat child sexual-exploitation and abuse material on its platform. In a statement, the eSafety Commissioner acknowledged today’s decision by an appeals panel of the Federal Court of Australia, saying the ruling confirmed that “the obligations to comply with Australian regulations still apply, regardless of a foreign company’s merger with another foreign company.” Social-media platform Twitter merged into X Corp. in March 2023.
