YouTube among social-media platforms banned for under-16s in Australia

In a statement, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that, following extensive consultation, his government had decided to impose the social-media restrictions, to be known as the Online Safety (Age-Restricted Social Media Platforms) Rules 2025, will exclude messaging apps, along with online gaming services, and health and education services. Age-restricted social-media platforms designated by the proposed law will include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X and YouTube, among other platforms.
