China's SAMR concluded 339 merger reviews in first half of 2025

( July 29, 2025, 09:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China's top merger-control regulator concluded 339 merger reviews in the first half of 2025, unconditionally approving 329 and recording eight withdrawals, according to a statement by the State Administration for Market Regulation, or SAMR. The total represents a 14.1 percent year-on-year increase, with particularly strong activity among domestic deals. Notably, SAMR granted conditional approvals to two deals: the Bunge-Viterra acquisition and the ANA-Nippon Cargo deal. Approximately 87 percent of the cases were cleared during the initial review stage without further investigation, while 43 cases received additional scrutiny but were ultimately not prohibited.The statement follows:...
