South Korea drafts APEC policy recommendation to bolster children's data protection

( July 29, 2025, 06:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission, together with the Korea Internet & Security Agency, is developing a policy recommendation to strengthen children’s data protection across APEC economies, leveraging the country’s 2025 chairmanship of the regional forum. The regulator began drafting the recommendation in March and conducted a survey and literature review in June across all 21 APEC member economies to assess current policies and public awareness. A workshop held today in Incheon served as a follow-up to these efforts, gathering policymakers, industry and academic experts to exchange views and refine the draft. The regulator said the final recommendations, expected by year-end, will serve as a best-practice model for protecting digital-native youth and as a vehicle for advancing South Korea’s data-protection standards across the Asia-Pacific.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
