Asean Geoeconomics Task Force to look at US tariffs and their impacts

( July 29, 2025, 05:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Asean Geoeconomics Task Force, established in February, will look at three challenges, with US tariffs and their impacts topping the list, Malaysia’s deputy minister of investment, trade and industry, Liew Chin Tong, said today. LIew highlighted that the task force, jointly chaired by Malaysia and Indonesia, will also look at the second order effects from President Donald Trump’s tariffs. The task force aims to help Asean navigate external shocks with greater coordination and resilience. Most importantly, it will consider the future of Asean integration, he said in an address at a conference on sustainable and responsible investment in Kuala Lumpur today.   The keynote address is attached....
