Thailand credits new cybercrime law with preventing $180 million in losses

( July 25, 2025, 05:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society said that the Emergency Decree on Cybercrime Prevention and Suppression has prevented over 5.8 billion baht ($180 million) in losses from online scams. The decree has been in effect since April 13 this year. From April 14 to July 20, the authorities have blocked 19,676 online gambling URLs and 14,143 scam-related URLs, and suspended 181,989 bank accounts linked to cybercrime. Deputy Prime Minister and DES Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong also highlighted real-time electronic evidence-sharing among agencies, citing it as critical to disrupting scam networks.
