US Judge Alikhan denies Trump motion to stay Slaughter's reinstatement to FTC

( July 24, 2025, 23:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: President Donald Trump's motion to stay the reinstatement of Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter was denied by the US District Court for the District of Columbia as Judge Loren Alikhan wasn't convinced by arguments that the defense will prevail on appeal. "Until the current Supreme Court speaks clearly as to the fate of Humphrey’s Executor, this court cannot — and will not — presume that a ninety-year-old ruling is no longer good law," Alikhan said in a seven-page order. "Having suffered a defeat at the summary-judgment stage, Defendants now insist that they are likely to prevail on the merits before the D.C. Circuit," she said. The judge also noted that Trump and co-defendants FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Commissioner Melissa Holyoak and Executive Director David Robbins were granted an emergency motion to stay Slaughter's reinstatement. "While the D.C. Circuit’s administrative stay freezes the proceedings independently of any action by this court, the court nevertheless feels obligated to discharge its independent duty."See attached document....
