EU and China to set up mediation system to resolve rare-earth export disputes

By Oscar Pandiello ( July 24, 2025, 14:41 GMT | Insight) -- The EU and China agreed to set up a system to resolve disruptions in critical raw materials and rare-earth supplies caused by export controls, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today. Although details were not disclosed, EU companies facing export-related supply issues will be able to request mediation to the bloc's executive arm. Mediation should quickly identify and resolve bottlenecks in the supply chain, she added.The EU and China will set up a new mediation mechanism to intervene when the supply of Chinese critical raw materials and rare earths is disrupted by export-control policies, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today....
