EU 2040 climate target rejected by far-right lawmakers

( July 24, 2025, 13:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Far-right lawmakers in the European Parliament have rejected the European Commission's proposal for a new climate target for 2040, their group, known as Patriots for Europe, said in a letter published today. "In the current context of war, economic uncertainty and migration pressures, the 90 percent emissions reduction target is not a realistic plan," the letter reads, adding that Europe must prioritize security, energy affordability, and economic resilience. The lawmaker leading the file in the European Parliament is Ondřej Knotek, a member of the Patriots for Europe group.  Letter attached....
